Training Log

Another challenging practice. Lower volume than yesterday, but intensity much higher. I'm feeling pretty wiped out this afternoon... ready for a day of rest tomorrow. Even though I'm feeling tired much off the time now, the hard training is paying off with a much higher level of fitness.
--Warmup and kicking went fine, as usual.
--4 x 300 meters on 8:00. 100 active rest during rest period.
Wow! Long rest means swimming as fast as possible. These are killer.
     Times: 4:01, 3:55, 4:00, 3:56
A month ago I would have had a hard time achieving these times in yards, let alone meters.
--Long easy warm down.

This is a set borrowed from the cross-country ski community (a big presence in Bend) for MVO2 development. They call it 4 x 4 (4 reps of 4 minutes each on a 1:1 exercise:rest ratio). Tom was a little rough on the first one, then got into the swing of it. I paired him next to one of our strong younger swimmers on the last swim and Tom--racer that he is--brought it home magnificently. Fun to watch!
