Day One: We start at Onion Valley and head over Kearsarge Pass.
Day Two: Heading for Glen Pass, we worry about the weather. Will we make it over before the storm breaks? Yes, we do. We camp up high on the other side.
Day Three: A high, intricate, exhausting cross country route takes us in to Sixty Lakes Basin then over into Gardiner Basin.
Day Four: Still feeling the effects of three hard hiking days, we opt for a late start and a short hike. We make camp lower in the basin early, as storm clouds build ominously. We spend six hours in the tent, sheltering from the storm, as hail pelts us and lightning and thunder play among the peaks.
Day Five: A day for exploring Gardiner Basin further. We climb ridges for better views and drop down to lower lakes.
Day Six: We do an exploratory ramble down to some lower lakes in the basin, then load up and head back to Sixty Lakes Col, dropping to a high camp above that basin.
Day Seven: We drop into Sixty Lakes Basin, staying high, eschewing the well traveled areas, climbing up to some lesser used lakes.
Day Eight: Exploring the upper reaches of Sixty Lakes Basin, right up to the base of Mt. Clarence King.
Day Nine: We drop down into Sixty Lakes Basin, climb the divide over into Rae Lakes and climb over Glen Pass, camping above the trail just short of Kearsarge Pass on our last night.
